Story Writing

number1 The Thunderstorm

'The sky was dark and heavy. The rain would soon be here. It was the start of a most unusual day.'

Make up a short story using this as a beginning.
 

number2 Lost!

Write a short story with the title Lost!

One of the people in the story could be you or you could write the story about someone else as if you were an eyewitness.

Think about:

Who or what is lost.
Why he/she/they are lost, or why something is lost.
The beginning, middle and ending of your story.

Information Writing

number3 Trouble in School

Your school has been broken into. There is a lot of damage. Your job is to write a letter to the local paper.

In your report you must:

  • Inform people about what has happened
  • Explain why it is a major problem for the school
  • Ask people for help in catching those responsible
  • Ask for offers of help to repair the damage to the school
Here are some ideas to help you but try to add some of your own.
Broken windows
Damaged books
Clues left behind by the vandals
Help from local businesses
 

number4 The Fun Run

Your is school is hoping to have a fun run to raise money for school funds but the organisers cannot decide whether to have separate races for boys and girls.

Write an article for the school magazine describing the Fun Run and putting forward the arguments for and against separate races. Here are some things to include:

  1. The time day and date
  2. The people taking part
  3. The reasons for the run
  4. The problem - a mixed race for boys and girls or separate races
  5. Reasons for and against separate races
  6. Your conclusions
