Story Writing

number1 A Trip to the Seaside

'Today is Saturday. It is the first day of the school holidays and we are going to the seaside. I am really excited because....'

Make up a short story using this as a beginning.

Here are some questions to think about.
How are you getting there? Who is taking you? Who else is going with you? What are you taking? What do you do when you get there? Is it an exciting day? Are you tired at the end of the day?

number2 The lost kitten

'Mrs. Flowers lived in Buttercup Cottage. She was very happy living there, looking after her beautiful garden. One day, her friend, Mrs. Hedges, who lived next door brought her a present. It was a little ginger kitten. Mrs. Flowers loved her new pet and they spent every day together but one day, the kitten went missing.

Can you make up a story about Mrs. Flowers and her kitten?

What happened to the kitten? How long was she missing? Who found her? Perhaps you could give the kitten a name when you write your story.

number3 A letter to Gran

You have just had your birthday. Your Gran has sent you a present. You want to send her a letter to say thank you.

In your letter you must:

  • Put your address (can you remember where to put it?)
  • Put the date underneath your address
  • Remember to start your letter with Dear Gran
  • thank Gran for the present. You could say what Gran has sent you and why you like it so much
  • Ask Gran a question (maybe you could ask how she is or when she is coming to see you again)
  • think about how to end your letter

number4 Please Come to My Party

It is your birthday next week and you are going to have a party. You have to send your friend an invitation.

What are you going to put in your invitation? Here are some questions to remind you.

  1. When is the party?
  2. Where will the part be held?
  3. Why are you having a party?
  4. What time does the party start and end?
  5. Do you need a reply?

You can add some colour to your invitation.
