Spelling - Answers

  The test should take about 10 minutes

For the child taking the test:
Print the test out as it is shown on this page with some words missing.

For the parent:
Print out the answer sheet and read the piece of writing to your child. Ask them to fill in the missing words when you say them.

We could hear the train approaching in the distance. Mum and Alice thought we __might__ be late but I knew we would get there on time.

The __station__ was empty except for two __women__ at the far end of the platform. They were busy __talking__ and hardly seemed to notice us.

It was a __warm__ day and the yellow flowers in the hanging baskets looked __beautiful__ in the sunshine. As I looked up I noticed some birds were nesting were the wall met the __roof__.

The ladies __stopped__ chattering when they heard the train and picked up their __luggage__ from the platform.

I was so __excited__, I could hardly stand still. We had waited for today to come for weeks and now it was here.

The train __appeared__ in the __distance__. As it got __closer__, the __noise__ was deafening. 'Can you see anyone yet' shouted Mum __above__ the roar of the __engine__.

We all __looked__ in the windows as the train __gradually__ came to a standstill.

The doors __opened__ one by one and finally, we saw him. I ran down the platform as fast as I could, __almost__ tripping over my own feet!

When he saw me, he put down his case gave me that wonderful, __gentle__ smile. 'Grandad', I said 'you're really here at last!'
