number1 Throw two dice and add together the number of spots.
Draw lines to show how likely the following answers are:
1 a good chance
6 or 7 least likely
12 impossible

 

number2 8 pupils sit at each table in the dining hall. There are 15 tables, so how many pupils sit down for lunch when all the tables are full?
15 x 8 = 120 pupils

 

number3 Nathan buys three bars of chocolate. The Choc and Nut costs 55p, the Milk Bar costs 37p and the Fruit and Nut costs 79p

What is the total cost of the three bars?

79p + 55p + 37p = £1.71

If Nathan only has £1, which two bars can he buy?
Choc and Nut (55p) and Milk Bar (37p)

Nathan decides to buy 2 Milk Bars. How much change does he get from £1?
£1 - 74p = 26p

 

number4 Laura buys a bottle of pop for 72p

She pays with a £5 note. How much change does she get?

£5 - 72p = £4.28

She puts £2.50 in her money-box. How much has she got left to spend?
£4.28 - £2.50 = £1.78

 

number5 Is one third of 93 smaller or greater than three-quarters of 40?
greater (one third of 93 is 31, ¾ of 40 is 30)

 

number6 In a class of 32, are girls. How many boys are in the class?
12

 

number7 Meg is going to the cinema. The bus from her house to the town leaves on the hour or half hour and return at ten past or twenty to the hour. The journey takes 20 minutes. The film starts at 2.15 p.m. and lasts for 2 hours and 10 minutes.

Which bus should she catch from home?

1.30 p.m.

Which is the first bus she can catch after the film?
4.40 p.m.
