![]() | Careers Curriculum Timetabled careers lessons continue to introduce pupils to the world of work and working practices through organised career activities. Post-16 options are sometimes introduced in Year 10 to avoid hasty decisions in Year 11 when pupils are under pressure from GCSE exams. |
![]() | Key Support Schools work closely with local agencies, including the Careers Service and employers. The Careers Service offers guidance and counselling to schools and pupils. Most schools work with a particular Careers Adviser who will provide individual interviews for all pupils and advise them about further and higher education opportunities, training or employment (see School Leavers section and Key Support Staff). Employers offer work experience placements. These usually take place towards the end of Year 10 or the beginning of Year 11 and last for at least one week. Employers also provide opportunities for visits and take part in careers events such as industry days, careers evenings, enterprise activities or joint curriculum projects with schools. |
![]() | Keeping records At the end of each year a Record of Achievement is completed. This outlines a pupil's academic and personal achievements while at school. Personal action planning encourages pupils to map out their future career plans, focusing on specific career options. |
![]() | Qualifications Pupils at this stage examine future possibilities for study, work and training that lead to recognised qualifications. (see Qualifications: A brief guide) |
