![]() | TECs, LECs and TEA These organisations perform similar tasks in the the 3 regions of the United Kingdom: England and Wales: Training and Enterprise Councils (TECs); Scotland: Local Enterprise Companies (LECs); Northern Ireland: Training and Employment Agencies (TEAs). Although they implement national training and employment initiatives, how they plan their activities and spend their money is very much up to them.
|
![]() | Their role and operation There are well over 100 TECs, LECs and TEAs throughout the UK. Their major purpose is to contribute to the success of their local economies. They promote a range of programmes for business development such as the internationally recognised Investors in People programme and local Business Start Up Schemes. |
![]() | Priorities and goals Effective training of the local workforce to boost the local economy is a priority, so TECs are heavily involved in training initiatives for all ages. Another strand to their services is the provision of information on a wide range of local and national programmes. This information promotes their commitment to direct recruitment through youth training schemes such as modern apprenticeships and adult recruitment through 'Training for Work' programmes. They work closely with local services, training agencies and increasingly with Chambers of Commerce to provide a comprehensive recruitment/ training/ business development programme. |
