![]() | ![]() RCCTE exists to help increase the prosperity of Rotherham by improving the skills of the workforce and management, by encouraging enterprise and initiative, by assisting with recruitment and by representing the business community locally and nationally. It does this in four main ways.
|
![]() Information is available from the Business Training library. It is packed full of videos, audio cassettes and open learning materials and it can all be borrowed free! Key staff deal with all aspects of the RCCTEs information branch offering advice about training programmes and initiatives, including Business Language Training. There is also a Training Access Point; this is a database of all the opportunities available at the touch of a button. If a change of direction is what you are looking for then a Psychometric Test might help you decide what to do. It is administered by trained personnel and is not at all threatening but if you prefer a one-to-one chat then that is available too from friendly qualified staff. Network and Social Events are arranged regularly.

![]() | ![]() Training to qualifications is a major aspect of Rotherham CCTEs work. All of the training RCCTE promotes is carried out by recognised and approved training providers. The training can lead to nationally recognised qualification such as NVQs. Programmes are available to suit most people and there is extra financial assistance for special circumstances. For example, if you are a lone parent participating in Training for Work , an adult programme that can last for six months, you may be able to claim extra money to cover the cost of child care. Other forms of training include Direct Recruitment, a shorter form of Training for Work; Get Set, a skill enhancement training programme; and the youth credits scheme, known in Rotherham as Impact. Impact is a new earn while you learn opportunity for young people completing their education at 16 or 17. Impact Apprenticeships are funded training programmes available to all young people in the Rotherham area between the ages of 16-25 and are a real alternative to full time education. Every 16yr old in the Rotherham area is issued with an information pack comprising a full training directory along with an Impact card. The unique Impact card allows access to training to the value of £4,000. It is the way into local jobs and a means of getting recognised qualifications. Impact Apprenticeships offer 3 routes into employer training programmes:

![]() ![]() Employees are valued and therefore motivated to develop existing skills and learn new ones. They have the added incentive of gaining recognised qualifications for their efforts. Employers find that a motivated workforce is a successful workforce and this leads to improved business performance. Company profiles are raised considerably; a caring company with a skilled positive workforce attracts more business that in turn leads to more investment in people. Many local businesses around Rotherham have achieved the Standard thanks to the involvement of Rotherham CCTE. RCCTE guides individual companies through standard procedures until the company is assessed and recognised as an Investor in People and given the award. Other business programmes include the Rotherham Manufacturers / Excellence Programme, a Masterclass Programme that provides recognised, informative speakers, a Sword Innovation Programme to identify new products and markets and a Benchmarking Programme to enhance team work.
![]() | ![]() A.E.S. Engineering is a typical local firm. It began manufacturing mechanical seals in 1981 with just five employees. Today the company's direct workforce is around 200 and this Rotherham-based business is now one of the world's top ten mechanical seal manufacturers. From the start, the emphasis has been on quality in design and manufacture, customer service and support. A purpose-built employee training centre and testing area were among the priority developments at the company. A.E.S. was an early supporter of the Investors in People Programme, earning their award in 1994. Claire Hyland, is one of two Modern Apprentices employed by AES Engineering Limited. Alongside its recruitment, training and business development initiatives, Rotherham CCTE has developed a comprehensive package of financial support including training grants, assistance for people with disabilities and career development loans. A membership scheme has been designed for companies to access management training, training events and business networks, business language training, and conference facilities among many other benefits.

![]() The merger of Rotherham TEC with the Rotherham part of the Sheffield and Rotherham Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SRCCI) produced one of the first TEC and Chamber mergers in the country and the very first in Yorkshire and Humberside. At the time Christopher Duff, chief executive of Rotherham TEC said: "We are going to establish a brand new organisation in Rotherham which combines the best aspects of the old and well respected Chamber with the best aspects of the TEC. The old Chamber had a very good rapport with members and the TEC has a very good relationship with employers. Together our services will be unbeatable." A visit by inspectors from the British Chamber of Commerce towards the end of1996, reported that Mr Duff's claim was justified. After two days of inspection RCCTE was awarded 'Approved'status. It is now one of more than fifty other core Chambers in the UK who offer benefits to their local businesses in line with British Chamber of Commerce national quality standards.
![]() Research shows that 90% of Rotherham employers are aware of the CCTE and its services - a far higher figure than most can claim. Of those who have used these services 87% say they found them quite useful and a huge 75% describe customer care as excellent, very good or good.
