TIBER workshop and launch

Making the business curriculum more than the sum of its parts

- an opportunity to explore how curriculum integration can be achieved

9.30-4.00, Friday 29 February 2008,

Room 222, Owen Building, City Campus, Sheffield Hallam University

  • Do your first year Business Studies students see their studies as comprising a series of separate subjects rather than an integrated whole?
  • Do you think it important for them to see the connections and overlaps between different areas of business?
  • Would an integrated view of business encourage student engagement with the curriculum?
  • Will an integrated view of business enhance students' employability?
  • Are you interested in creating among first year students, a greater appreciation of the 'joined up' nature of business?

If your answers to any of these questions is 'yes', this workshop is for you.  You will be able to explore with like-minded business educators how these issues can be addressed by the design of the first year curriculum.

The workshop will explore the match between employers' expectations and current practice and will examine ways in which practice can be improved.  One such way is to connect areas of the curriculum by the use of common resources.  The Integrating Business Education Resource (TIBER), developed under the auspices of FDTL5, is one such resource.  During the workshop we will demonstrate TIBER along with some of the Learning Activities we have developed.

You will then have the opportunity to investigate ways in which you might use the resource and the learning activities in your own courses.
