About Us - History and Values
Following a successful career as a senior manager in the retail business, John Young opened our first store in 1973 in Sheffield under the name of the biz. It catered to a specific niche market of fashion and life-style conscious young people and retailed mainly exotic clothing.
Since then the company has grown and has changed its name to appeal to a wider market and to reflect the diversification into a broad range of merchandise.
John Young was quick to see to opportunities offered by large shopping malls, establishing his second shop in the revolutionary Brent Cross Centre in 1976. Further stores were opened in Leeds and Nottingham in 1980 and 1988,respectively. Over the next ten years these were joined by branches in Manchester, Bristol and Newcastle. The latest addition to the portfolio is the wonderful new shop in the highly imaginative Bullring Centre in Birmingham.
Further developments, refurbishments and relocations are in the pipeline - announcements will be made in due course.
In spite of the rapid growth of The Business, we are still a family owned company with our head office in Sheffield.
