Damflask reservoir is home to the three sheffield rowing clubs. The images displayed below show some of the features seen in rowing around the country, with rowers and the natural environment alongside each other, undisturbed.
In the 1960’s rowers from Sheffield University formed a rowing club, followed by individuals from Sheffield who set up City of Sheffield Rowing club in 1968. Starting from very basic beginnings – simply a boat and oars stored on the bank side under tarpaulins, the rowers showed persistence, and in 1972 Sheffield City council, who operated the reservoir at the time built a boathouse to house the growing fleet of boats. Sheffield City Polytechnic (later to become Sheffield Hallam University), formed a rowing club in the 1970’s and the relationship between the clubs developed to an extent that Damflask Rowing Association was formed to represent all three clubs in negotiations with others. The clubs continued to grow and in 1990 opened a new boathouse alongside the original with improved facilities. Today around 200 individual members of the three clubs enjoy rowing at this facility, and the clubs send competitors both national and international events.
