Macronutrients...
Food provides nutrients that have physiological and biochemical benefits for the body. Carbohydrate, Protein, Fat and Water are all macronutrients and are used as major sources of energy by the body. They are therefore required in large amounts. The general functions of these nutrients can often be described by the following categories:
- The promotion of growth and developement.
- Provision of energy.
- Regulation on metabolism.
Adequate intake of all these nutrients is necessary to maintain physiological performance.
