BISAThe British In-Line Skating Association (BISA) is a non-profit making, largely voluntary organisation that is affiliated to and recognised by the IISA (International In-line Skating Association). Since it was set up in April 1995 as a UK-wide organisation, its membership has grown considerably. It's main aim is to promote, represent and defend in-line skating throughout the UK. This includes producing information about UK skating facilities (rinks, leisure centres and sports centres), organising major skating events, representing the interests of in-line skating on all levels and promoting safe skating by approving instructors. On a national level it works with local authorities to negotiate safe, free areas that skaters can enjoy. As part of it's promotion work on behalf of the sport, it has introduced a Skatewise programme that includes a code of conduct for all in-line skaters. BISHAThe British In-line Skater Hockey Association (BISHA) is the national governing body for the sport of skater hockey. Although it is run on a voluntary basis, it promotes, encourages and fosters the development of Skater Hockey nationwide for both sexes and all age levels. Leagues are run throughout the country, and teams also have the opportunity to take part in tournaments at home and abroad. Currently there are more than 8,000 members.Teams are split into four age groups:
There are active regional associations in London, the South-East, South-West, North, Midlands, North West, Wales, Scotland, Southern and Eastern regions of Great Britain. The BISHA National Committee has key representatives working for the Association within each region and is, itself, a key member of the International Skater Hockey Federation. Amongst the BISHA's responsibilities are the arrangements for the National Championships for each age group, and for the International Tournament held each autumn. Teams from several countries, including Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands and Great Britain, compete at international level. The BISHA maintains a National Register of players and works constantly to increase publicity and awareness of the sport. Money for the Association is raised through membership, grant-aid and sponsorship.
