The Football and Scottish Football Associations Cup tournaments (FA Cup and Tennents Scottish Cup ( FA Cup) are annual events. They are an open and entertaining, knock out tournaments that all league and 'non-league' teams can enter.

FA Cup: Chelsea 2 Middlesbrough 0
Tennents Cup Kilmarnock 1 Falkirk 0

bullet1 Coca Cola Cup and Scottish Coca Cola Cup
These are both annual events organised by the football leagues. All league teams from the Premier League and lower divisions can enter. The first two rounds and the semi-finals are played over two legs, home and away. Other rounds including the final are a straight knock-out. The final takes place at Wembley. In the event of a draw at Wembley, replays can be held at another neutral ground.
Result 1996 - 1997 season:
Coca Cola Cup Leicester City 1 Middlesbrough 1 (Wembley, after extra time)
Replay - Leicester City 1 Middlesbrough 0 (Hillsborough, after extra time)

Scottish Coca Cola Cup Rangers 4 Hearts 3

bullet1 Charity Shield
This is the first game of the new season and is played at Wembley between the previous season's Premier champions (or runners-up when one team wins the double) and the winners of the FA Cup. The match has usually been contested between the League Champions and the FA Cup Winners

Manchester United 1 Chelsea 1 (Man U won 4 - 2 on penalties, after extra time)

bullet1 Autoglass Windshield Competition
This competition is for clubs in divisions 2 and 3 of the league. Teams are divided into two regional groups (north and south). In 1996/97, the competition became a straight knock out tournament, with some clubs given byes to round 2. The top team from each region plays in the final at Wembley.

1997 Carlisle United 0 Colchester United 0 (Carlisle won 4 - 3 on penalties, after extra time)

bullet1 FA Trophy
The FA Trophy is a knockout competition for clubs from the Vauxhall Conference, Dr Martens and Unibond Leagues clubs and the top two divisions of the Isthmian League. The champions of 1984/85, Wealdstone, also won the FA Trophy, becoming the first club to achieve the 'non-league double'.

bullet1 The FA Carlsberg Vase
The FA Carlsberg Vase is a national knockout competition for semi-professional clubs who are not eligible to enter the FA Trophy.

The World Cup finals take place in France from June 10 to July 12,1998 and the draw has now been made. The 30 finalist countries have qualified through a series of tournaments played within each of the six FIFA Confederations across the world. France joins the finalists as hosts and Brazil as cup holders to make 32 teams in total.
Result 1994:
Brazil beat Italy on penalties after extra time.

bullet1 European Championships
A major competition that takes place every four years. In 1996, England was the host country. The next championships are in Belgium in 2000.

bullet1 Champions League
The Champions League is an annual competition for league champions and runners up. Clubs are seeded so that some have to play in preliminary and qualifying rounds for a place in the final groupings. Qualifying teams are divided into six groups. Within each group, teams play each other home and away. The six group winners and two best runners up go through to the quarterfinals. The Cup Winners' Cup is an annual competition for winners (or finalists). These must come from major domestic cup competitions (such as the FA Cup) throughout Europe. See Cup Winners' Cup to keep up with this years draw and results.

bullet1 UEFA Cup (previously known as the Inter Cities Fairs Cup)
The UEFA cup is for European teams who have achieved a good place in their domestic leagues. Some of the losing teams from the early rounds of the Champions League also qualify for a place. Another route is via the Inter Toto Cup. This UEFA Cup is a knockout competition and each round (apart from the final) is played over two legs. See EUFA Cup for 1998 draw and results.
