What is a migraine?
Migraine is more than just a bad headache. It is a severe headache that is often accompanied by a feeling of nausea and dizziness. It can affect vision and speech and many sufferers become sensitive to light and need to lie in a darkened room until the symptoms pass.

A migraine attack can last several hours or, in severe cases, days. Some people only suffer two or three times in their lifetime but others suffer two to three times a week. It affects children as well as adults and it is estimated that in the UK there are almost 6,000,000 people with the condition.

The Migraine Trust
The Migraine Trust, established in 1965, provides information and support to migraine sufferers. It funds several migraine clinics around the country and runs a confidential Helpline for sufferers and their families. Through its work, it promotes research into the causes and treatment of migraine

The Trust sees the awareness week as an opportunity to:

  • Focus public attention on the problems that migraine causes
  • Increase public awareness about the nature of the condition
  • Raise funds for research and education programmes
