What is Arthritis?
Arthritis is inflammation of a joint. This can be a sore swollen joint that gets better in a few days or a long-term (chronic) disease. It is a particularly painful condition and can affect anyone of any age, even children and young people. It hampers their mobility at a time in their lives when they want to be most active, yet most young people manage extremely well with the disease. They adjust or adapt their activities and learn to cope with the restrictions.

Anyone who has a form of arthritis must follow a lifestyle that includes some treatment. They must achieve a balance between rest and exercise, as both are necessary. There is no drug that can cure arthritis but there are treatments and drugs that can help to ease the pain and reduce the inflammation.

Arthritis Week
This week focuses on the effects of arthritis and looks at the treatment of the disease. It also promotes the positive ways in which people can adjust their daily routines to adapt to the condition.
