Compulsory Subjects |
All pupils have to study the three core subjects- English
- Maths
- Science (single, dual or triple)
and their school timetable must also include
- a Modern Foreign Language
- Technology (design and technology/ information technology)
- PE
- RE

Option choices |
Option choices for subjects leading to GCSE are selected from the foundation subjects. Pupils are allowed to select three or four subjects depending on the school's policy.
The choices include
- History
- Geography
- an additional Modern Language
- Art
- Music
- Physical Education
- Dual Science (a combination of the three sciences)
- Triple Science (three separate sciences of biology, physics and chemistry)
- Religious Education
- Latin
The government believes that dual or triple science should be taken by the great majority of pupils and that single science is intended for a minority of pupils who have good reason to spend more time on other subjects. |
