As part of a technology project, a group of pupils from Allerton Middle School, Bradford, planned a special meal for a guest. Richard Pemberton, a teacher at the school, has actively promoted links between the school and local industries. These links were incorporated into the technology project. |
How did the project work?
An education tutor from a nearby supermarket visited the school to talk to the pupils about food and nutrition. In addition chefs from a local hotel worked with the pupils on food presentation techniques. Both the hotel manager and the education tutor gave the pupils an insight into the hotel and catering trade from very different viewpoints.

What were the benefits?
- Pupils found the practical work enjoyable and felt that they had acquired new practical skills.
- They used the leaflets from the education tutor to increase their knowledge and as a basis for further research.
- The school now has an ongoing link with local industries that benefits both employers and pupils.
