Do option choices at this stage affect a choice of career later on?

Are there any laws or restrictions governing part-time work?
There is a set of guidelines for young people that deals with part-time work. New guidelines are currently being drafted to bring the UK in line with EU legislation. |
How can good attitudes be encouraged at home?
Parents' evenings, particularly the options evenings in year 9, can stimulate discussions about future choices. Decide what you and your parents might like to ask about before you go. Check to see if there are any useful leaflets published by the local Careers Service.

If someone has special needs, does this affect careers education?
At every Key Stage all children are involved in careers activities whether or not they have a physical difficulty, a sensory impairment or a learning difficulty. Learning about the world of work is appropriate for all children. The careers activities they are involved in will depend on their age, rather than their individual physical or learning capability.
