There are over 600 muscles in the body.
Every movement in the body is made, from smiling
to running is made possible by muscles.
Muscles are either voluntary or involuntary.
Voluntary muscle moves when instructed to, e.g.
running up the stairs or waving.
Involuntary muscles act without the person thinking
e.g. heart beating or blinking
Muscles are attached to the bone through tendons
which bind the muscle to the bone.
Muscles are made up from thousands of tiny fibres
which are a type of elastic tissue.
The heart is located a little to the left in the middle of your chest and
is around the size of your fist.
Its job is to send blood around the body to provide oxygen and
nutrients to the bodies muscles and organs and remove there waste.
The right side of the heart recieves blood from the body and pumps it
to the lungs.
The left side recieves this oxygenated blood from the lungs and pumps it around the body
The heart has four chambers, two on the left side and two on the right. These are
seperated by the septum. The top chambers are called atriums and the lower chambers,
the Ventricles.
The left atrium fills with blood which is sent through to the ventricle, this then squeezes the
blood around out of the heart and around the body.
The right atrium and ventricle work in the same way but they send the blood to the lungs.
