vital exercises for upper body improvement
Core
Your core is vital is keeping your whole body stable when your skating, if you get hit during play it will aid you in keeping your balance. Furthermore, an effective core will transfer the strength from your lower body and viceversa.
The V-up
Start position: Lie back onto floor or bench with knees bent and hands extended towards ceiling. Head should be in a neutral position with a space between chin and chest.
Leading with your chin and chest towards the ceiling, contract your abs and raise shoulders off thefloor . Also raise legs up towards ceiling and attempt to touch your hands to your feet.
Full sit-up
Start position: Lie back onto floor with knees bent and hands by your head. Keep elbows back and out of sight. Leading with your chin and chest towards the ceiling, contract the abdominal and raise shoulders off floor or bench until you are seated in an upright position. Return to start position.
Simon's top tips; Remember to keep head and back in a neutral position. Hyperextension or flexion of either may cause injury. repetition is key! try to do 3 x 20 repetitions, or more if your feeling strong!
once you feel comfortable doing this exercises, a fit ball can be inputted to further exercise your core
