Equipment guide...

A quick guide to some of the pieces of equipment you might stumble across whilst training within the SAQ field. How to set them up and safety aspects of each type of equipment.

speed ladders

Speed ladders are very simple to set up almost anywhere to improve your speed and agility! The first thing you need to do prior to starting a session is to make sure the ground is flat with no rocks and bumps which could cause injury. Next lay out your ladder flat and as straight as possible and your ready to go!

Hurdles

To set up a hurdle course, firstly you need to make sure the hurdles are facing the correct way illustrated in this image; this is so if you knock one it will fall and not cause injury. The next thing is the distance between each hurdle, if you turn a hurdle sideways this is the distance required for effective hurdle training. If you are struggling with this distance there is nothing wrong in making the distance larger until you get the technique down.

Cones

ones come in all shapes and sizes but effectively all the same thing, if your area of training is marked out effectively they have done their job! Try to use cones that are not made of really hard plastic so if you contact them you'll avoid injury. Furthermore try not to use really big cones that remove the objective of the drill.
