Hurdle drills ...
As you have seen from the ladder and cone drills, creativity is key for success, we give you a few ideas and hopefully you will run with them! Below are a few ideas for hurdle drills that can be done forwards, backwards and laterally!
Single contact
The most basic of hurdle drills, similar to the single contact ladder drill, although the height of the hurdle makes it more of a challenge. These can be done forwards, backward and laterally.
Double contact
Once again similar to the ladder equivalent, although the height of the ladder will impose a new obstacle.
Bounding
The aim of this drill is to, jump with both feet together remaining in control of your body at all times and staying balanced is key! This can be further developed into single leg bounds or hopping.
Shuffles
Within this drill you need to get on your toes and shuffle around the hurdles as quickly as possible, this drill will improve lateral sprinting power. Vital for skating performance!
Further developments
To further develop these drills you could combine ladders and hurdles to keep you body guessing!
Taylor's top tip for hurdle drills:
Due to the fact that there is a new challenge in the hurdles, don't go in at full speed straight away, go through each drill a few times slowly to get used to the movement patterns, slowly build up speed to full pace. These will be much more beneficial to your overall improvement.Back to Hurdle home
