Regulations: Boards, Glass and Goal

 

The board and glass

The rink is surrounded by wooden or a plastic wall known as the boards. The boards must be white in colour. The boards have a maximum height of 1.22 meters but must be no lower than 1.17 meters.

The boards must be smooth and free from obstruction that could cause injury to players or officials. The lower part of the boards is known as the kick plate, this is yellow in colour and must be between 15 and 25 cm heigh.

All doors which give access to the ice must open away from the ice surface.

 

The protective glass located above the boards must be between 160- 200 cm heigh on the ends and extend 4 meters from the goal line towards the neutral zone. The protective glass must be no less than 80cm in height along the sides, except where the players benches are situated.

 

The Goal

The goal is situated in the centre of the goal line. The goal posts extend vertically at 1.22 meters and are 1.83 meters apart. The depth of the goal must be no more than 1.12 meters or no less than 0.60 meters. The goal must be painted red.

At the top of the protective glass at each end where the goals are situated there must be protective netting, this stops the puck from leaving the rink area and injuring a spectator.
