Celebration Time

penny_rHello it's Penny Phonic here again
I am here to help you with the sounds that words make.

You are probably quite good at recognising sounds now but when the same sound is spelt in different ways, it causes all sorts of bother!

Lets look at some words that end in 'tion' or 'sion'. They don't sound at all like they look!

Station sounds like 'stayshun' and pension sounds like 'penshun'.

So 'tion' and 'sion' sound like 'shun'.

Many of these words are to do with feelings. Can you read them?

celebration     passion     confusion     sensation

elation     frustration     compassion     repulsion

Now can you work out what they mean?

Try to match the words to these clues.

a mix up _____________

dislike very much _____________

very happy ______________

a festival or special event ________________

disappointment when you can't manage to do something __________________

something you feel _________________

a strong emotion_____________________

showing pity __________________
