Silent Letters

Word MouseWord Mouse says 'Here are some more word lists All the words have silent letters. A silent letter is a letter that you don't say when you read the word'.

Here is a way to help you learn.

  1. Read the word.
  2. Copy the word onto a piece of paper.
  3. Learn the word
    (look at the shape of the word and the letters in the word)
  4. Cover the word and try to write it again.
  5. Ask someone to check the word you have written to make sure it is correct.
Word MouseWord List 1 - starting with 'gn_' (the silent letter is 'g' so the words sound as if they start with 'n').
gnarled gnash gnat gnaw gnome

Word MouseWord List 2 - starting with 'kn_' (the silent letter is 'k' so the words sound as if they start with 'n').
knack knave kneel knew knick-knack knife
knight knit knock knot know knuckle

Word MouseWord List 3 - starting with 'wr_' (the silent letter is 'w' so the words sound as if they start with 'r').
wrangle wrap wreath wreck wrench wriggle
wring wrinkle wrist write wrong wrought-iron
