When you come across a word
If you use a new word
Just look up the first letter
So get yourself a dictionary
There are special dictionaries for children and young people, such as pocket dictionaries. They contain fewer words and so it is easier to find the word you want. At home, you may use a larger with more words and explanations.
There are other types of dictionaries that you may use as you get older. For example a French-English dictionary lists French words alphabetically and gives you the English meaning. It also lists English words alphabetically and gives you the French meaning. A dictionary of science lists only scientific terms and their meanings.
If you look in a dictionary, the words are printed in bold and the explanations follow the words. For example:
spaceman: a person who travels in space
To find a word you must:
Sa comes first in alphabetical order, then sp and then su.
Would space shuttle come before or after spaceship?
