Books, Magazines and VideosThere are plenty of books available about golf. Some focus on courses, events or individual golfers but others give you an introduction to the game. 'Learn Golf in a Weekend' published by Dorling Kindersley (ISBN 0-7513-0283-X) concentrates on the basics and provides some useful information for beginners. A good range of books is available in most book shops and larger newsagents such as WH Smith or you can browse through the sports section at a central library.Golfing videos are popular and offer an alternative way to learn how to play the game. On a good video you can see individual strokes and techniques performed and explained by experts. There are a range of monthly magazines for sale in most newsagents. Look out for 'Today's Golfer', 'Golf International', 'Golf World', 'Golf Monthly', and 'Fore'. On-line you can visit Golf Today, at http://www.golftoday.co.uk/. It is updated daily to give you the latest tournament scores, information about tours, biographies of players, advice about golf schools and pro tips.

Golf ClubsThere are almost 2,000 golf clubs around the UK. All your local courses are listed in yellow pages. Some courses are only open to adult golfers, but many clubs now welcome junior members. They usually insist, however, that you are accompanied by a responsible adult or a coach when you play.Throughout the UK, there is a mixture of private and public courses. Generally, private courses are for members only, and public courses are open to everyone. Contact several clubs to find out what they offer for someone your age. Ask their advice about playing the game and if possible visit the club to talk to someone there. Juniors are accepted as young as eight but you can start playing at any age. Search for information about a club near you on the Golf in Europe web site at http://www.ecs.net/golf/Clubs.html
