![]() Further Education Steps to take 1. Think about the course you might like to take and where you might like to study. (discuss this with a Careers Teacher or Careers Adviser) 2. Send for some prospectuses. (Click Here to download a 'Word' document: Applying for a prospectus). 3. Visit college web sites. See Resources. 4. Decide which course you would like to take (discuss this again with a Careers Teacher, your parents, etc.) 5. Complete an application for and send it to the college. If you are still at school, you can get an application form from the Careers Teacher for a local FE college or you can ask a college to send you an application form with their prospectus. All applications to university or a college of higher education must go through UCAS, the Universities and College Admission Service. When you get an UCAS form you will also get a handbook and some instructions to help you complete the form. You can get a form from your school, FE college or direct from UCAS. On your UCAS form you must choose 6 places (discuss this again with a Careers Teacher, your parents, etc.) 5. Decide which course you would like to apply for 6. Complete and send off your UCAS application form. Keep a note of your application number in case you have any queries. The closing date for most courses is 15 December (this is in the year before you are due to start). Check the UCAS handbook for closing dates. 7. UCAS will send you a card to say they have received your application. Keep it safe. If you are still at school, you can get an UCAS application form from the Careers Teacher.
