Preparing for Interview
You may have to attend more than one interview so be prepared. Often you are interviewed by a subject tutor who will want to know why you want to do this course and if you are able to do it. You may also be interviewed by a personal tutor who will want to find out about you as a person.
Making sure you are ready for the interview
- Check out where you have to go and who you have to see. Ask for a map and some instructions well in advance.
- Allow ample travel time to get there. If the university or college is some distance from where you live, think about travelling the day before and staying overnight. It will give you a chance to look around the local area.
- Plan to arrive at least 15 minutes before your interview is due to start.
- Think about the questions you are likely to be asked and prepare some answers, (see below).
- Write down the questions you would like to ask at the end of the interview.
- You will need something suitable to wear that is smart and comfortable.
- Have your Record of Achievement and any other certificates ready, and up-to-date, to take with you.
- Practise having an interview with teachers, parents or friends. Sit comfortably, speak clearly, and smile from time to time.
