faqsWhat is Technician Training?
Technician training schemes were traditionally designed for school and college leavers interested in full time (paid) work-based training and further education study to HNC level qualifications. Most of these schemes have since been replaced or incorporated into the National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) framework or the Modern Apprenticeship scheme....but not all.

faqsWhat examples of modern Technician training are there?
A good example of a modern Technician training scheme is one currently run by the Ford Motor Company. It is specifically designed for sixth form or college leavers. Business Technicians train in one of the three functions:
  • Purchasing and Logistics
  • Finance
  • Customer Service
Entry requirements
Academic qualification requirements vary slightly for each function. They range from:
  • 4 or 5 GCSEs (A - C) to
  • 2 or 3 A levels , BTEC National Cert or BTEC Diploma
Selection
The selection process is based on a formal Assessment Centre approach that includes interviews, psychometric tests and group exercises.

Training
Practical work experience is gained through a formal programme of training and personal development at specific company site locations.

Qualifications
Through part-time day release study to a BTEC National Certificate, Membership of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, or BA (Hons) degree in Business Studies

The qualification awarded depends on the function to which the Business Technician is appointed.
