Job Offers

At the end of the recruitment and selection process comes a job offer (for someone) usually in writing. Yet the job offer is only one half of the contract of employment and requires an acceptance from the successful candidate before the contract is legally binding in law.

Take time to evaluate the offer; it may be tempting to accept the offer straightaway but fully understand what the terms and conditions of employment really mean. If unsure, speak to the Personnel Department before accepting in writing.

Points to consider

  • are you getting the best deal available ?
  • is the job really what you want ?
  • is there scope for further training / advancement ?
  • do you want to work for the company ?
  • does the pay meet your needs ?
  • can the job fit in with your domestic situation ?
  • could you do better ?
  • is there any security ?

The package

The package is made up of the terms and conditions that go with the job. This includes things like:
  • Wages, bonus earnings and overtime
  • Pension; what will it cost ?
  • Life / health insurance; what are the arrangements ?
  • Holiday entitlement
  • Sick pay arrangements
  • Hours of work
  • Protective clothing
  • Notice periods
  • Location; is moving home a requirement ?
  • Business expenses
  • Fringe benefits; other facilities not considered as binding within the contract of employment such as sports and social club provisions
