Assessment: Planning for learning and Critical Reflection (60% of module assessment)

Aim

The aim of this assignment is fourfold;

1.    To help you prepare for the module - To enable critical thinking and preparation for the module through reflection on what the learning outcomes of the module are and what they mean to you. Framework is designed to help and enable you to analyse your practice and your previous experiences.

2.    To help you evaluate your assumptions about the subject - Module aims to make the delivery and assessment of the module as much as possible student-centred. This means that it is crucial for you to engage in some initial (research) activity in order to develop and form an opinion as to what this module should be about. This activity will also have a marked effect on preparation for the module.

3.    To help you qualify your development and transformation - Student-centred nature of delivery of this module is envisaged to help you become and remain alert with regard to your personal development in the module. Framework is designed to introduce you to practices that would not only help you achieve as much as possible in this module but also learn to devise Frameworks similar to this for your other subjects or potentially as part of your professional development plan (PDP) when you leave the University.

4.    To develop strategical thinking and planning abilities - Central to your development and transformation through the module are artefacts that work as pieces of evidence.  Assertions without justification are worthless. Framework is designed to help you reflect early as to what these artefacts are like in terms of format, shape, size, etc. As part of the planning for the module you need to have think about pieces of evidence and strategise for the capture of the artefacts in timely fashion and as an output of a continuous process.  This of course has to be done at the beginning of the module. Late designs are not as useful. Use of technology for the capture is encouraged.

Process

Assignment is devised to help achieve the aim in four stages inline with the themes in the module. It is envisaged that there will be two strong themes in the module, one on business strategy (Semester 1) and the other on enabling technology (Semester 2). In each Semester you are to plan at the beginning of the Semester and sum up your development at the end of the Semester.

Requirements outline

·         See table below for the word limits and as an example to give this a tangible measure, for "Planning for learning - S1", your output is expected to be no more than 1600 words (8 framework criteria and 4 learning outcomes. With 50 words for each cross sectional deliverable, we have 4X8X50=1600 words) & for "Critical reflection - S1", your output is expected to be no more than 1600 words (5 framework criteria and 4 learning outcomes. With 80 words for each cross sectional deliverable, we have 4X5X80=1600 words).

·         This is an individual piece of work.
