"Drinking is bad for you"

Drinking what? Does this mean drinking coffee is bad for you?  Certainly, drinking water tends to be good though drinking too much water at once could lead to water on the brain and death. Does this mean drinking spirits is bad for you?  Research suggests that a glass of wine a day could help alleviate heart disease. Then again based on what evidence would you suggest wine is good for you?  Did someone say it or does the statement refer to a publication in British Medical journal?

Statement seems simple and it tends to ignore complexities that may be inherent in any statement.   Suggesting that drinking is bad for you is an oversimplification of a very complex matter and it usually raises generates doubt about the depth of someone's thinking.

Critical reflection is a process of critically examining one's practice, learning and development in order to facilitate a process of planning for making adjustments, corrections, etc.

How do I reflect?

There is no universal method for reflecting but it is worth spending a little time to structure your practice and develop a method for consistency.  Of course you must reflect on your method which means your method could evolve over time.  Just to start you off presented here is the work done by Clayton et al (Dr. Patti Clayton and colleagues at North Carolina State University).

DEAL is a 3-Step model for reflection. The idea is to start and finish with appropriate intellectual activities.  For example you should not begin a reflection activity by asking "What did I learn?".  We reflect because we want to learn from the process and so "What did I learn?" is a good last step in the process not a first step.
