I am a Senior Lecturer
within the School of Engineering and Mathematics where I have taught on
a wide variety of courses at both undergraduate and post-graduate
levels. I have had a wide range of research experience in
instrumentation and measurement in both academia and industry, having
worked on, for example, the design and development of a transcutaneous
mass spectrometer blood-gas probe for foetal scalp application in an
academic environment and the high speed resistance seam welding
process, with a particular focus on the on-line measurement of seam
weld quality, in industry.
I joined the University in 1983 and continued working in the area of
instrumentation and measurement with an emphasis on electrical
impedance tomography with a particular interest in dual modality
techniques.
More recently, I have started working on sensor networks. One particularly interesting area
is the formation of images from an array of sensors.

I have acted as an external examiner at postgraduate level for taught
and research degrees. I have also acted as referee for various journals
related to instrumentation and measurement. I was the Internet Research
Register Editor for Sensor Review, a journal that deals with all
aspects of sensing with an emphasis on industrial applications, from
1998 to 2001.
I am a Corporate Member of the Institute of Physics, a Chartered
Physicist, a
Chartered Engineer and
a Foreign Member of the Shevchenko Scientific Society. I was the Link
Co-ordinator for the Institution of Electrical Engineers Ukrainian
Centres during the latter half of the project (1997-1998) and also
served on the local IEE Committee.
