Strong foundations<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Ensure you are clear on the submission requirements for the category of fellowship (descriptor) you are applying for.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Read the relevant PSF 2023 descriptor and dimensions carefully, thinking about how you can evidence these within your own context.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Make full use of the support available e.g. writing retreats and the guidance and resources on this website.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;color: #993366\"><strong>2. Ask yourself\u2026<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">When making statements such as:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">\u2018to engage students I\u2026\u2019 or \u2018active learning promotes participation so I\u2026\u2019 or similar, try to answer the following questions:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">Why is that important\/relevant?<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"color: #000000\">How do you know (what is your evidence)?<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">In describing your examples this is where you can show the Core Knowledge and Values dimensions of the PSF 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;color: #993366\"><strong>4. Be specific<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Don\u2019t generalise (\u2018I ensure that my materials are inclusive\u2019 \u2013 how? give an example).\u00a0 The panel needs to get a flavour of your actual practice and how it meets the PSF 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;color: #993366\"><strong>5. Stay focussed<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Avoid long descriptions of your modules, syllabus or a particular situation unless it is very relevant; try to keep it brief if so.\u00a0 The focus is on your actions, your decisions and your reasoning. Be prepared to edit significantly to ensure you meet the word count.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;font-size: 14pt\"><strong>6. Remember impact<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Describe the effect of what you did on student learning. What were the outcomes or changes that occurred as a result?\u00a0 How did you evaluate the initiative?\u00a0 For Senior Fellow, remember that you need to demonstrate a s<span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW267082293 BCX0\">ustained record of leading or influencing<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW267082293 BCX0\"> the practice of others and impact that\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW93756663 BCX0\">extends significantly beyond your direct teaching.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<h4><span style=\"color: #993366;font-size: 14pt\"><strong>7. Allow failure<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Don\u2019t feel that you only need to talk about successes.\u00a0 You can demonstrate reflexivity as a practitioner by reviewing failure or negative outcomes.\u00a0 What did you learn? What would you do differently? Try to be objective and critical about your work: a key feature of good reflective practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;font-size: 14pt\"><strong>8. Map accurately<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Examine carefully the claims you are making against each of the PSF 2023 descriptors and dimensions of practice.\u00a0 Is it really design or is it actually delivery (A1 or A2)?\u00a0 Be very strict and clear with yourself as these are the criteria against which your application will be judged.\u00a0 Misalignment could mean that you leave an unintended gap in your mapping.\u00a0 The panel will try to look at your application holistically but they do need to be able to evaluate your claims against the PSF 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;font-size: 14pt\"><strong>9. Find a buddy<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Ask a critical friend to read through a draft in good time. Many people find it helpful to work with a \u2018buddy\u2019 who is also applying. You act as a sounding board for each other and set writing objectives for when you meet up to maintain momentum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #993366;font-size: 14pt\"><strong>10. Make time<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000\">Come to a writing retreat if you\u2019re finding it hard to get time to work on your application. This provides a quiet online or in person space to work alongside others who will also be writing their applications.\u00a0 An adviser will be on hand for guidance, feedback on your draft work or to answer any questions you may have.
