{"id":178,"date":"2024-01-03T12:29:52","date_gmt":"2024-01-03T12:29:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/teaching.shu.ac.uk\/talent\/?page_id=178"},"modified":"2025-10-23T14:51:54","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T14:51:54","slug":"support","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/teaching.shu.ac.uk\/talent\/support\/","title":{"rendered":"Workshops, Writing Retreats &amp; Support (D1 &#8211; D3)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\r\n<h4><span style=\"color: #993366\"><span class=\"TextRun SCXW232052901 BCX0\" lang=\"EN-GB\" xml:lang=\"EN-GB\" data-contrast=\"none\"><span class=\"NormalTextRun SCXW232052901 BCX0\">We are sorry to advise that we are unable to offer\u00a0<\/span><\/span><strong>Introductory Development Workshops\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Writing Retreats<\/strong>\u00a0for new applicants in 2025\/26, pending a review of the TALENT scheme.<\/span><\/h4>\r\n<h4 class=\"has-text-color\" style=\"color: #672146\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;color: #000000\"><strong>WORKSHOPS, WRITING RETREATS AND SUPPORT (D1 &#8211; D3)<\/strong><\/span><\/h4>\r\n<p>We aim to support you in all aspects of beginning, developing and completing your application for fellowship through the practitioner route.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>In addition to the advice, guidance and resources provided online on these web pages, we also try to ensure there is plenty of opportunity to receive face-to-face feedback\/forward at every stage of your application.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color: #672146\"><a id=\"DW\"><\/a>Development Workshops<br \/><br \/><\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The best way to understand the requirements of fellowship under the TALENT scheme is to attend one of our development workshops. Dates, times and booking information for these workshops can be found in the <a href=\"https:\/\/teaching.shu.ac.uk\/talent\/calendar\/\">TALENT calendar.<\/a> We normally run two development workshops per month (one for Associate Fellow\/Fellow and one for Senior Fellow) which will help you to:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>Answer any questions raised by the introductory videos,<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Enhance your understanding of the PSF 2023 dimensions of practice,<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Interrogate your practice for suitable examples,<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Clarify what kinds of evidence are required,<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Begin to sketch out the shape of your submission,<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>Work on identifying some of your evidence and receive feedback.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Our development workshops are delivered online and include interactive elements and opportunities for discussion &#8211; please ensure your working environment is conducive to your participation. <\/strong>If online delivery does not suit your needs, please don\u2019t hesitate to contact us on <a href=\"mailto:talent@shu.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">talent@shu.ac.uk<\/a> to discuss alternative options.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #993366\"><a id=\"DWAFF\"><\/a>Development Workshop: getting started &#8211; Associate Fellow\/Fellow (2 hours)<\/span><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This online workshop provides specific support and guidance on applying for fellowship via the internal scheme building on the \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/shu.cloud.panopto.eu\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=5ed0851a-c723-4e91-a847-b13d017b36b4\">&#8216;Getting Started Guide\u2019 video<\/a> which must be watched prior to attending this workshop. It will provide practical tips and guidance on developing your Associate Fellow or Fellow submission, what reviewers will be looking for, interpreting the PSF 2023 more deeply and investigating through exemplars some common errors as well as positive approaches.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span style=\"color: #993366\"><a id=\"DWSF\"><\/a>Development Workshop: getting started &#8211; Senior Fellow only (2 hours)<\/span><\/h3>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This online workshop is specifically aimed at new applicants for Senior Fellow, building on the <a href=\"https:\/\/shu.cloud.panopto.eu\/Panopto\/Pages\/Viewer.aspx?id=5ed0851a-c723-4e91-a847-b13d017b36b4\">&#8216;Getting Started Guide\u2019 video<\/a> which must be watched prior to attending this workshop. If you are at all uncertain which category of fellowship you should be applying for, please contact us to discuss further.\u00a0 This workshop will provide specific support and guidance on applying for Senior Fellow via the internal scheme \u00a0and will:<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\r\n<li>inform you of the practical steps you need to get started;<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>provide information and guidance on developing your submission, the process of submission and how your submission will be reviewed and a decision reachedinvolve developing elements of your submission to get you started and<\/li>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<li>investigate through exemplars some common errors as well as positive approaches.<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Each development workshop runs once per month and further details regarding specific dates and how to book a place, can be found via the <a href=\"https:\/\/teaching.shu.ac.uk\/talent\/calendar\/\">TALENT calendar<\/a> or by contacting <a href=\"mailto:talent@shu.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">talent@shu.ac.uk<\/a><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><br \/><a id=\"Registration\"><\/a><strong><span style=\"color: #672146\">Registration<\/span><\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #993366\"><br \/><\/span><\/h4>\r\n<p>Attendance at a Development Workshop automatically registers you with the TALENT scheme and gives you up to a year to submit your fellowship application.\u00a0 You will be advised of your own personal submission deadline date (more\u00a0details about submission deadlines can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/teaching.shu.ac.uk\/talent\/calendar\/\">TALENT calendar<\/a>. If after attending the Development Workshop you feel that you are not ready to commit to submitting within this time period, you may opt out at this stage.\u00a0 By registering, you are eligible to attend as many writing retreats as you wish, to receive further support with your application.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>Please note:\u00a0<\/strong>If you are unable to submit by your own personal submission deadline date, we would require you to begin the registration process again by attending a new Development Workshop and repeating any practice observation within your new registration\/submission period.<br \/><br \/><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color: #672146\"><a id=\"WR\"><\/a>Writing Retreats<br \/><br \/><\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Our full day writing retreats are delivered online and in person &#8211; see the TALENT calendar for dates.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Our\u00a0<strong>online<\/strong>\u00a0writing retreats allow you to work remotely and focus on the ongoing development of your fellowship application. One-to-one guidance and support are available online or by email on any aspect of your draft application \u2013 it could be a discussion about relevant content based on rough bullet points or feedback on a fully completed draft. \u00a0If workloads do not permit a full day, then you can block out time for just a morning or afternoon or arrange a specific appointment time.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Our\u00a0<strong>on-campus<\/strong>\u00a0writing retreats provide a quiet space to focus on the ongoing development of your fellowship application, along with paper-based resources. In person guidance and support is available on any aspect of your draft application.\u00a0 If workloads do not permit a full day, then come for just a morning or afternoon. Please note that you will need to\u00a0<strong>bring your own laptop.<\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>You may book onto as many online\/on-campus writing retreats as you feel you need.\u00a0 By blocking out time away from e-mail, meetings and other daily distractions, you can make some real progress!<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>These retreats run 1-2 times per month.\u00a0 Further details regarding specific dates and how to book a place, can be found via the<span style=\"color: #ff0000\"> <a href=\"https:\/\/teaching.shu.ac.uk\/talent\/calendar\/\">TALENT calendar<\/a> <\/span>or by contacting\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:talent@shu.ac.uk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">talent@shu.ac.uk<\/a><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>To book on to a Writing Retreat you must have attended a Development Workshop<\/strong> <strong>within the last 12\u00a0months and registered for the TALENT scheme.<br \/><br \/><\/strong><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-text-color\" style=\"color: #672146\"><a id=\"Mentoring\"><\/a>Peer Mentoring Scheme for Fellowship Applicants (D1 &#8211; 3)<br \/><br \/><\/h4>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>We have a mentoring option for those who would like to benefit from support, guidance and advice from colleagues who have already succeeded in obtaining recognition through the TALENT Advance HE Fellowship Scheme.\u00a0 Mentoring is available for staff applying for Associate Fellow (D1) , Fellow (D2) and Senior Fellow (D3).<\/p>\r\n<p>Mentoring for Principal Fellow (D4) is organised separately &#8211; details can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/teaching.shu.ac.uk\/talent\/application-process-d4\/\">Principal Fellow page<\/a><span style=\"color: #ff0000\">.<\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>This support offer is optional and in no way affects access to the ongoing support offer from the TALENT team.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><strong>For more details on how the scheme oper<span style=\"color: #000000\">ates, please read the <\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/teaching.shu.ac.uk\/talent\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2024\/03\/TALENT-Mentoring-Scheme-Guidance-2024.docx\">mentor scheme guide for applicants<\/a>.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Whilst mentors undertake initial and ongoing PSF 2023 relating training to effectively support mentees, please be aware and respect that they are doing this work in their own time.\u00a0 Please do take the time, when you first meet with your mentor, to agree what kind of support you would like and what the limitations are, including when might be the best times to engage.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>You may select and make contact with any available TALENT scheme mentor\u00a0and can therefore choose to meet someone close to your own discipline or select someone who might have a wholly different set of practice and experience to draw on.
