Back to Learning

Having looked at the term ICT we now have to return to learning and the learner as the heart of our subject.   If ICT is simply a tool in the service of learning and teaching, then it needs to fit into the pedagogical framework, which may mean the framework needs some adjustment to take account of the potential benefits of the technology.

Before we look at 'bending the pedagogy or the technology to fit, we need to remind ourselves of the varied nature of the ways in which people learn.

There is a PowerPoint presentation entitled ICT & learning,   a table of possible areas of interest to refresh your memory, a short paper entitled Student Learning Styles and Their Implications for Teaching, and a list of additional resources, all to give you a starting point.   Browse the material and choose your own route: refresh your memory on topics covered previously, or select a topic you may not have covered in depth before, and then have a go at Activity 2: can you...

    1. Identify learning issues/barriers for a group/type of your own learners
    2. Identify a possible strategy which may be appropriate in   overcoming the issues/barriers (without considering technology at this stage).

Make a note of your findings for further discussion.
