Section 1: What do we mean by ICT?

 transcript

In this section you will find a Microsoft Word document entitled "What do we mean by ICT?" which summarises the points in the introductory video.

Your next step is to explore your personal perceptions of technology in education to find out where you stand. Read the document entitled, "Where do I stand?" and then complete the interactive exercise, ICT Perceptions.

You should now complete the ICT Capability Self Evaluation to gauge your own ICT skill level against the skills needed for this module. This will help you in your decision about which of the optional modules to complete.

Next you should read the JISC guide, Effective Practice with e-learning and make notes of relevant points for discussion.

You are now ready to complete the activity for Section 1.

Practice Related Activity

Take a look at your current teaching context and see if you can identify elements of ICT you are using to support your learners, or yourself...

  1. What type of technology is being used?
  2. Identify how each item is intended to support the learning process
  3. Determine whether you consider this to be appropriate or not
  4. If the application is inappropriate what suitable alternatives are there?

Make a note of your responses to these questions for discussion.
