Equipment
Players and netmindersequipment must consist of skates, sticks, protective equipment and uniforms. All protective equipment except helmet, gloves and netminders leg pads must be worn underneath the uniform.
Players Equipment
Helmet: All players must wear a hockey helmet with a chin strap properly fastened. The helmet should be worn so that the lower edge of the front of the helmet is no more than one finger width above the eye brows. The chin strap should fit so that one figer width can fit between the chin and strap. The helmet must be CSA or HECC approved.
Shoulder pads: All players must wear shoulder pads. They should fit so that the center of your shoulders lines up with the center of the shoulder cup. The shoulder pads provide protection for the collar bone, chest, ribs, back and upper arms.
Elbow pads: All players must wear elbow pads. The elbow pads should fit comfortably into the center of the elbow. They elbow pad may extend so it reaches the upper and lower arm.
Gloves:All players ust wear gloves. The gloves must be of hockey style and cover the hand and wrist. The palm of the glove must not be removed to use bare hands.
Pants: All players must wear hockey pants. They should fit loosley and comfortably. The shorts should overlap the top of the shin pad by 1-2 inches. Make sure that the spine protector on the back of the shorts overlaps with the bottom of the shoulder pads.
Shin pads: All players must wear shin pads. The shin pad must extend the full length of the lower leg.
Skates: Players must wear "ice hockey" style skates.
Stick: Must be made from wood or other material approved by the IIHF. The shaft of the stick must be straight. The maximum length the shaft can be is 163cm, the maximum width is 3cm and the maximum thickness is 2.5cm. The blade of the stick may be curved but not exceed 1.5cm. The maximum length of the blade is 32cm. The stick blade must have a minimum width of 5cm with a maximum with of 7.5cm. Adhesive non-fluorescent tape may be wrapped around the stick at any point.
Jock strap/ Plevic protector:Worn underneath the pants.
Goaltender
Helmet: The helmet can be either netminder style or player style. The helmet must be CSA or HECC approved.
Catcher: The perimeter of the catcher shall not exceed 114.3 cm.The width at the wrist cuff must not be wider than 10.16cm. The catching area of the glove must not exceed 46cm. The catcher is similar to the catcher used in baseball except it has more padding around the wrist and knuckles. The catcher should be stiff at all times.
Blocker: The maximum length of the blocker is 38.1cm with a maximum width is 20.32cm. The blocker goes on the hand which the netminder holds the stick with.
Body Protector: Covers the whole of the upper front half of the body and the arms. The spine is the only part of the back which is protected.
Pants: Worn similar to the player's pant except there is padding covering the knees and thighs. Abdominal aprons, extending down the front of the thighs on the outside of the pants are prohibited.
Leg pads: Each leg pad must be no wider than 28cm. The leg pad covers the full length of the lower leg and overlaps with the pant.
Skates: Netminder style skates are recommended as they have renforced plastic around the edges of the boot to protect the foot from the impact of the puck.
Stick: Must be made from wood or other material approved by the IIHF. The shaft of the stick will have a maximum length of 163cm from the heel, with a maximum width of 3cm and a maximum thickness of 2.5cm. The widened part of the shaft has a maximum length of 71cm from the heel with a maximum width of 9cm. The shaft must be straight. The blade of the stick has a maximum length of 39cm from the heel with a maximum width of 9cm, except at the heel where it should not exceed 11.5cm. The blade may be curved but not exceed 1.5cm.
Age dependant equipment:
Neck Guard: It is recomended that all players regardless of age wear a neck guard. It is compulsary that all players aged 18 and under must wear neck and throat protection. The neck guard protects the neck and throat from being cut by skate blades.
Mouth Guard: It is recomended that all players regardless of age wear a custom made mouth guard. Any player under the age of 20 who dosn't wear full face protection must wear a custom made mouth guard. A mouth guard not only protects your teeth but also helps prevent concussion.
Face Protection: All players born after December 31st 1974 have to wear as a minimum a half face visor. All women, netminders and players under the age 18 have to wear full face protection.
