The 'diamond nine' activity seeks to promote critical thinking and problem solving. The basic concept is that facts are presented as 9 cards or statements which have to be organized by priority into a diamond shape. This is a great activity for collaborative planning but is also useful in helping students structure tasks to complete a project.
In this interactive version, students are required to arrange the diamond shape from left to right with the left hand side being the most important or of a higher priority.

The opening template provides a blank display which can be populated with text by clicking on the blue squares inside the cards themselves. When using a diamond nine activity it is helpful to provide an accompanying narrative which identifies whether or not students are allowed to swap some (or all) of the provided statements with those they create themselves.
Web links can be added to the details section of any card and this will appear as a yellow square on the card itself. When entering a link remember to include the appropriate URL start information (i.e. http://www.shu.ac.uk. When using a very long link make use of a short url to ensure that this works correctly. All links open in a new window.
The default background can be changed to reflect the type of activity you wish to construct. By default this is set to a standard diamond Nine.
Blank templates or completed diamond nine layouts can be shared via URL or as an embed code which can be placed within virtual learning environments. Simply click the appropriate button and then copy the required element to share.
When students have completed a diamond nine it is best if they then send this to their tutor as a URL link.
