Books and MagazinesThere are an enormous amount of books available about walking. Almost every area in the country, local and regional, has something written about it. Check out the titles in newsagents, bookshops and libraries.'The Rambler's Yearbook and Accommodation Guide' (4.99) is full of details about walking in Britain. It provides a list of long distance paths and a directory of equipment shops. There are also notes about rights of way and club addresses. 'The Long Distance Walkers' Handbook' (ISBN 0-7136-5539-9) published by A&C Black, gives a full list of long distance paths. Ordnance Survey Maps are sold at good bookshops and stationers. Walking Clubs and OrganisationsThe Ramblers Association supports 53 regional areas in England, Wales and Scotland, running 400 local groups. It publishes a rage of leaflets , books and booklets and a quarterly magazine, 'Rambling Today'. The Backpackers Club is a club for walkers who want to do some overnight camping en route. It supports and promotes backpacking, for walkers, cyclists, canoeists and cross-country skiers - in fact anyone interested in the camping way of life.
