Q. I have an album with countries in it and some stamps that my family collected for me. What do I do now? A. If your stamps are still stuck onto corners of envelopes you need to get them ready to go into your album. Getting Started will tell you how to do this. Next you need to sort out your stamps and decide how you are going to display them. Look at the Section Getting Organised for some ideas. |

Q. When were the first stamps printed and are they worth a lot of money? A. About Stamps will tell you about the first Penny Black stamps. Many of these were printed so they are not the rarest or the most expensive stamps in the world. A good stamp catalogue or stamp book from your local library will show you some of the most expensive stamps in the world. See Sources of Information. |

Q. I have a lot of stamps with Disney pictures on them. Is it worth collecting sets of stamps like these that are all the same? A. Stamp collections that follow a particular theme are popular among many collectors. Most of the stamps you collect at first may not be worth very much but as you get to know more about stamps you will discover those that are worth keeping. Q. My album is divided into countries. I have too many stamps for some pages and not enough for others. I want to go on collecting but what should I do? A. You may decide to collect the stamps from one particular country. This can be more interesting than collecting stamps randomly from anywhere. See Getting Organised, Country Collection |

Q. Can I stick the stamps straight into a scrap book? A. You should never stick stamps that you are collecting straight onto anything. Always use stamp hinges. That way the stamp doesn't get damaged. Using the hinges you can stick the stamps in a scrap book but an album is better because it has a grid marked on it. The grid acts as a guide to help you to stick your stamps on straight. Q. I have been collecting stamps for a while and I am now ready to swop some stamps. I also want some new ideas about displaying my stamps. Where can I go? A. A stamp club is a useful place for meeting people. You could also look at local stamp exhibitions or visit a stamp fair for some ideas. See Sources of information. |

Q. Where is the best place to buy stamps? A. There are several places where you can buy good quality stamps. See Information Sources, Buying Stamps. A stamp dealer in a special stamp shop can give you lots of useful advice about buying, selling and swopping. He can also advise you about equipment such as the right album to suit your collection. |
