University accommodation has been developed as a campus village in the city on the edge of the John Anderson campus. Other students live in the city or at Jordanhill. Priority for Halls of Residence is given to first year students from out of Glasgow.

There is a lot of demand for rented property in the private sector from the many students who come to the three universities and colleges in the city.

Glasgow is a lively student city with lots of pubs, clubs and restaurants. There are theatres and cinemas, top class music venues, museums and art galleries. Around the university, Byres Road, Dumbarton Road and Great Western Road offer a variety of shops and eating places.

Various music venues offer folk, traditional, acoustic, classical, jazz and rock music, attracting local, and international artists. (Clubs: Archaos, the Arches and Tunnel; Music Venues: the Barrowlands, the Garage, King Tuts).

Glasgow's theatres - the Arches, Citizen's Theatre, Theatre Royal and the Tron Theatre - offer varied programmes. There's a multiscreen cinema at the Quay and Glasgow Film Theatre offers an alternative choice. On campus, the Union has a good reputation for concerts, discos, social and cultural activities.

The Pitz in Glasgow, with astroturf pitches, is popular with students. Kelvin Hall, has extensive open sports facilities that are also used for international events. On both campuses, there are a range of facilities including swimming pools and sports courts. Jordanhill has outdoor sports areas and there are additional facilities at Stepps playing fields. The nearby coast, mountains and winter resorts offer opportunities for a range of outdoor pursuits - sailing, walking, mountaineering, skiing, rowing and windsurfing.

Sports to watch locally include football (Celtic and Rangers).

Glasgow has an excellent range of shops - popular high street stores, designer shops and markets, including the Barras market.
