Reading is in the heart of the Thames Valley, 40 miles west of London close to Junction 11 of the M4. The university is based on three sites.

The main campus is at Whiteknights, about a mile-and-a-half from Reading town centre.

Bulmershe Court is a smaller site about a mile from Whiteknights (Faculty of Education & Community Studies)

The small London site closer to Reading town centre is the Gyosei International College run by a Japanese educational trust.

Reading has excellent road and rail links with the rest of the UK and a direct rail link to central London. All the sites are within a short bus ride of Reading.

Reading is a reasonable sized town in the Thames valley, surrounded by pleasant countryside and many pretty villages. There are some good shops, a 12-screen cinema, and a range of local pubs and eating places. Music and entertainment in the town is provided at the Hexagon complex. Sports to watch locally include football (Reading), speedway, and horse racing (Newbury and Ascot).

Social and sporting life for most students centres around the Whiteknights Campus. The Union organises more than 130 different clubs and societies. Sports are well catered for in the Wolfenden Sports Centre, and on the many pitches and courts around the campus. Bulmershe has more facilities. Boating and canoeing are popular on the nearby Thames.

Oxford, Birmingham or London are only a short train journey away with music, entertainment, theatres, cinemas, eating places, museums, shops and night life in abundance.
