Liverpool is a lively student city with lots of pubs, clubs and restaurants. Liverpool's China town is one of the oldest in Europe. The Lark Lane area is popular with students. Famous for its music scene, The Beatles and the 'Merseysound', Liverpool also has a rich cultural heritage as one of England's foremost ports. With a buzzing night life and its sporting scene, there's something for everyone.

The many music venues offer folk, traditional, acoustic, classical, jazz and rock music, attracting local, and international artists. There are more than 130 clubs! (Popular venue: Cream at the Nation - city; the Haigh - university). Theatre venues include the Everyman Theatre, the Playhouse, the Empire and the LIPA at the university.

Most university facilities are found at IM Marsh. In the city, students use local amenities or those at Liverpool University.

Sports to watch include football (Liverpool and Everton), horse racing (Aintree), rugby league (St Helens, Widnes and Wigan), golf (Royal Birkdale).

Liverpool is a commercial city and there is excellent shopping in the city centre with malls and arcades including the Cavern Walks. The dock area has been completely refurbished and the Victorian Albert Dock is popular with residents and visitors. The ferry across the Mersey leaves regularly from Albert Dock and offers a nostalgic and historical view of Liverpool's great maritime heritage.
