Manchester Metropolitan has seven campuses: five in the Manchester area, one at Crewe and one at Alsager in Cheshire. The university is spread over a 40 mile radius and is one of the largest universities in term of numbers.

The campuses at Alsager and Crewe are in rural settings but are still within reasonable travelling distance of the city.

Manchester has excellent road and rail communications with the rest of the UK and Manchester's international airport, one of the busiest in the UK is only a short distance from the city. Local travel is by bus, train or the metro. A modern tram system operates in the city.

Manchester is a lively city with lots to do and lots to see. There are restaurants to suit every taste, (Chinese in China town, Asian, Thai, Malaysian, Italian, Greek, Mexican, French and endless curry houses).

The music scene is bursting with clubs, pubs, theatres and international venues (Nynex Arena, G Mex Centre, Bridgewater Hall), and the music on offer - classic, jazz, folk, rock, reggae and many more - reflects the tastes of this cosmopolitan city. Many of today's popular bands, Oasis, Simply Red, and the M People, developed their talents amid this musical scene.

Manchester and the surrounding area has everything to offer the sporting enthusiast. For spectators, there's football (Manchester United and Manchester City), cricket (Lancashire County and England at Old Trafford), ice hockey (Manchester Storm), basketball (Manchester Giants and Chester Jets), speedway, rugby and cycling (National Cycling Stadium). For sportsmen and women, there are clubs covering most sports either within the city or at the university. Outdoor enthusiasts can enjoy walking, climbing, abseiling and other popular activities in the Peak District National Park is only a short distance away.

Additional attractions in Manchester include many museums, galleries and Granada Studios, home to Coronation Street. There are high street stores, small fashion shops and a wide range of food shops. Affleck's Palace arcade is popular for its second hand stalls and as a place for young designers to sell their latest creations.

For students on out of town campuses, there are social events on campus and local attractions in Chester or Stoke.
