There is music for most tastes either around the university or in a local venue. The MacAlpine Stadium hosts some large-scale gigs while the Town Hall (used for Graduation Ceremonies) has a varied entertainments programme. Leeds, Bradford and Manchester are within easy reach for a night out. The Students' Union provides sport and social activities for all students. The sports programme includes team games, swimming, sailing and outdoor activities. There is a sports hall at Queensgate and the university uses the outdoor pursuits amenities in the Pennine area. Sports to watch in the town include football and rugby, (Huddersfield Town FC and Huddersfield Giants both at the McAlpine Stadium). There's a reasonable selection of shops in the town centre, only ten-minutes walk from the university.
Students are encouraged to make us of the university's campus-wide information systems.
