Healthcare
You get free healthcare from
- GPs (family doctors)
- Practice nurses/ community nurses/ health visitors (these are nurses or health workers that are based at local health centres. Community nurses and health visitors can visit you at home if necessary)
- Pharmacists (they dispense the medicines in a chemists)
- Opticians
- Dentists
- Hospitals
You do not pay for
Prescriptions, dental treatment or eye tests. You can get free glasses but if you want a particular frame you may have to pay something towards it.
Parents'/ guardians' consent
At this age, you are still dependent on parents or guardians to sign consent forms for medical treatment, but you can make an appointment to see a doctor or health worker on your own if you want to discuss a health issue privately.
A time of change
Early teens are a time of change - with puberty comes growth spurts, skin problems, bodily changes, etc. Advice is available from doctors, practice nurses, health visitors, or school nurses.
