Let's Practise
Parents:
Start by reading this section to your child. Later on, there are questions (in red) to ask your child and activities in green that you can do together.
This page is about talking and listening to other people. When you go to school you meet lots of new people - other children, teachers, the school secretary, class helpers, dinner ladies, dinner nannies and the school caretaker. Sometimes you must listen to other people and sometimes you must talk to them.
Look at the map on the first page, then try to answer these questions.
What is this? What is it for? Who uses the postbox? Who empties the post box?
Activity:
Put some things in a bag (some used envelopes and some small empty boxes). Take turns to be the postman or postlady. Knock on the door and deliver your letters and packages. You must say what you have brought. Perhaps you could chat about the weather as well. |
What is this? What do you do here? Who takes you to the library?
Activity:
Pretend you are at the library. You want a book. It is called The Billy Goats Gruff. Talk to the lady behind the counter. Ask the lady to help you find the book. Remember to say thank you. |
What is this? Who will you meet in here?
Activity:
You are sitting in your class.
What do you do when you want to ask a question? What do you say when you ask a question? Did you remember to say please? What do you do when the teacher answers your question? Did you remember to listen? Did you remember to say thank you?
Pretend you are in your school now and you want to ask a question. Think of some questions you might ask:
Can you help me please?
Please can I go to the toilet?
Can I borrow a rubber please?
Would you like to play a game with me?
What's your name? |
