Ocean Colour Scene have been around since the late 1980s but things have started to look up since they signed for MCA and made their debut single 'The Riverboat Song' in 1996. There are four members of the band: Simon Fowler (Vocals, Guitar and Harmonica); Steve Craddock (Guitars, Piano, Vocals); Oscar Harrison (Drums, Piano, Vocals); and Damon Minchella (Bass Guitar). Steve was guitarist with the Birmingham band 'The Boys' while the other three, also from Birmingham, were collectively known as 'The Fanatics'.

As Ocean Colour Scene, they signed with the !Phffft label, but were transferred to Fontana when !Phffft sold out. There were problems with production and their early singles did very little. Most of their time was spent touring and playing wherever they could. They spent some time with Paul Weller on tour and supported Oasis in 1994.

It was a long haul but their enthusiasm never weakened. They had a collection of good songs and showed talent as musicians. In 1994, they signed to Island music and set up their own studio, Moseley Shoals in 1995. Here, they spent hours writing, creating, rehearsing and playing. With the help of top producer Brendan Lynch and engineer Max Hayes, they put together some tapes. MCA heard them, liked them and signed the group.

1996, saw a nationwide tour and chart success with 'The Riverboat Song', 'You've Got It Bad', 'The Day We Caught The Train' and 'The Circle'. Their first album, 'Moseley Shoals' reached No.2 in the album charts. In 1997,' Marchin Already' rose to No.1 in the album charts and their chart successes continued.
